What is a 10 tola gold bar?

A 10 tola gold bar is a single piece of 24K gold weighing ten tola. The tola is the unit gold is quoted in across Pakistan, and it is fixed:

• 1 tola = 11.664 grams
• 10 tola = 116.64 grams — 11.664 × 10

That figure never changes, whichever brand supplies the bar. What changes is the rate per tola, and with it the price you pay. Both ARY and Simba supply this weight.

The price on this page is worked out from our 10 tola bar rate, which is set separately from the small bar rate used for weights below it. That is deliberate: the 10 tola bar is one large piece with no packaging cost, so it is quoted lower per tola. The figure above is calculated from the current rate at the moment you load the page, so it moves whenever we change the rate at the counter.

Why it is called a "piece"

Ask for a piece at almost any counter in Islamabad or Rawalpindi and you will be handed a 10 tola gold bar. The word is local shorthand, and it is what our own customers and the jewellers we deal with use day to day. You will occasionally hear "gold biscuit" for the same thing, though that is not the common term in our market. Whichever word you use, it is the same 116.64 grams of 24K gold.

No packing charge, and what that is worth

On every other weight you pay the gold value plus a fixed packing charge. On the 10 tola bar you pay the gold value and nothing else, from either mint. Buying ten separate 1 tola ARY bars instead would add Rs. 20,000 in packing charges for exactly the same quantity of metal.

The trade-off is flexibility: a 10 tola bar has to be sold whole. If you think you may want to release part of your holding, a mix of sizes suits you better.

Because the bar is priced per tola, the per gram figure follows directly — the tola rate divided by 11.664. It is worth knowing if you are comparing this size against smaller bars or against a gram-quoted price elsewhere.

Checking the bar before you buy

Both the ARY and the Simba 10 tola bar are supplied unpacked, and both carry a unique serial number and a QR code. Those are the reference points: read the serial, and use the QR code to check the bar through the manufacturer's own verification system. A QR code by itself does not prove a bar is genuine — what matters is what the check returns.
